It’s that time of year where the sweltering heat can overwhelm you and your parked car. There’s nothing worse than getting into a car so hot you cannot breathe or even be scared the seats will burn the skin on your legs when you sit down. There are actually some great ways to ensure you and your vehicle can survive the summer heat this year, so let’s take a look.

Park Smart

On the hottest days, try and find shade to park in. A parking garage would be great if you can find one, if not then parking under a tree will do the job as well. Any type of shade will protect you from the summer heat. When you hop into your ride at the end of the day, you and your vehicle will be thanking yourself you took an extra minute to find some shade.

Use Your Garage

Your garage should be the first place you think of parking your vehicle when you get home, but if you are like most people then your garage is a space for extra storage and not necessarily cars. If you want to protect your vehicle from the sun this year, try cleaning out your garage so your car has a safe place to stay this summer. After all, this tip kills two birds with one stone — a cooler car and cleaner garage to enjoy.

Sun Shades Are Your Friend

These may not be the most fashionable or convenient accessories to use on your vehicle, but they get the job done. Also, you can always find custom sun shades that will match your vehicle better. The heat-absorbing materials will save you from entering a scorching hot vehicle after a long day of work.

Cover Your Interior

If you are totally against sun shades, you can always cover the interior instead. There are many options for car dashboard covers that will keep your interior parts from sitting in the sun all day. If you don’t want to deal with those, blankets and towels work as well.

Tint Your Windows

Tinted windows help block out harmful UV rays. Depending on your state tint laws, that will determine the extent of the tint shade. Make sure you stick with the legal limit so your day isn’t ruined by a pricy ticket.

Crack Your Windows

This may be old school, but it works! By leaving a small crack in your window or sunroof, you will be able to let your car breathe while you are away. We suggest never leaving your window open over an inch, just as a safety precaution.
